Woodward made his England debut in 1903 and went on to win 23 full caps (16 whilst at NonLeague Spurs) scoring 29 goals as well as scoring 57 goals in 44 amateur internationals.
Woodward captained the England Olympic team in 1908 and 1912 picking up a goal medal on each occasion.
span>In 1907 Woodward became a director at Tottenham but ‘retired’ from the club as they prepared to join the Football League and moved across London to Chelsea.
At the outbreak of the First World War Woodward enlisted in the army and eventually became a captain in the Middlesex Regiment.
A wound sustained in 1916 officially ended the playing career of one of England’s greatest goalscorers
